Why can't other users on my local network connect to my machine when I'm connect to Link2Exchange via VPN?

Document: Q1058

Overview:

When you're connected to the Link2Exchange network via VPN, the VPN client prevents other users on your Local Area Network from connecting to your machine.

Procedure:

The Link2Exchange VPN client prevents access to your machine from your Local Area Network to provide the highest level of security possible to our network. If you want to have access to your Link2Exchange email and still be able to share files, play games or provide other services from your machine to your local area network, do one of the following:

  1. Recommended: Use Link2Exchange's OWA service to connect to your email via your web browser. It's fast, secure and easy! Just go to https://mail.link2exchange.com then log in with your email address and password. You will still have access to your calendar, public folders, etc. The only difference is that it doesn't require a VPN connection so you can continue to provide services from your machine to your local LAN such as file sharing.

  2. You can configure your VPN client to allow access to your Local Area Network while you are connected to Link2Exchange via VPN. Follow the procedure below if you wish to do so. If you're on a corporate network, please consult with your local network administrator before enabling this feature.
    1. Open your Link2Exchange VPN client.

    2. Click Options-->Advanced Mode.

    3. Click Modify.

    4. Click the Transport tab.

    5. Put a check next to 'Allow Local LAN access'.

    6. Click Save.

    7. Click Options-->Simple Mode. The next time you connect, you will be able to access your local LAN as well as the Link2Exchange network.
