Top 20 Tips and Tricks for the Blackberry Handheld

Overview:

The Blackberry handheld is a fairly intuitive interface but there are some handy tricks you can use to make it even more useful. The top 20 tricks (as provided by Research in Motion) are listed below.

Procedure:

  1. Press the Escape button to exit any menu, dialog box or screen.

  2. Press the Alt key (looks like a half moon and is located on the bottom left of most Blackberries) while scrolling to make the Blackberry scroll left and right instead of up and down.

  3. When typing text, press and hold a letter then use the track wheel to scroll through the accents, symbols, marks or numbers associated with that letter. When the desired character appears, release the letter.

  4. Press the first letter of an item in an options list or menu to move the cursor to that item.

  5. To find a contact in the To: or Find screens, type the first letters of a name or initials seperated by a space.

  6. To copy and paste text, press the Alt key and click the trackwheel. Roll the trackwheel to select text. To copy the text, press the Alt key and click the trackwheel. To paste the copied text, place the cursor in an editable field and then press the shift key and click the trackwheel.

  7. Press and hold a letter to capitalize it.

  8. Press the space key twice quickly to insert a period when typing text. (Note: The letter following the period will automatically be capitalized.)

  9. Press the space key to inserver the '@' and '.' characters in an Email field. (Note: The first time you press the Space key, it will create an '@'. It will create '.'s on subsequent presses.)

  10. Press R in an open message or in the Messages application to reply to the email's sender.

  11. Press F in an open message or in the Messages application to forward the message to another person.

  12. Press L in an open message or in the Messages application to reply to all recipients.

  13. Press the Enter key to move down a page in an open message. Press Alt + Enter to move up a page in a message.

  14. Press the Alt key plus the right shift key to turn on CAPS LOCK mode. Press hte shift key by itself to turn off CAPS LOCK.

  15. Press the Alt key + O to view outgoing messages. Press the Alt key + I to view incoming messages.Press the Alt key + S to view SMS messages. Press the Alt key + P to view phone call logs. Press the Alt key + V to view voice mail messages.
  16. Press T to go to the top of a list or an open received message. Press B to go to the bottom.

  17. Press N to go to the next date on the Messages screen. Press P to go to the previous date and press U to go to the next unread item.

  18. Press number keys (without using the Alt key) to insert phone numbers into the Phone, Work, Home, Mobile, PIN and Fax fields.

  19. In the Calendar's day view, press the Space key to go to the next day. Press the Shift key plus the Space key to go to the previous day.

  20. In the Calendar's week view, hold the Alt key and use the trackwheel to scroll through the days of the week.


Please Note: These Blackberry tips are confirmed to work on a Blackberry 7510. They should work on most Blackberries but Link2Exchange cannot guarantee that all of them will work on your Blackberry.
