 Troubleshooting

The VPN appears to be connected. How can I be sure it is?

Document: Q1264

Overview:

If you've logged into the VPN and the yellow lock in the corner is locked, you are connected to the Link2Exchange VPN. To ensure the VPN connection is working properly, follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Procedure:

  1. If the yellow lock in the corner of your screen isn't locked (or isn't visible) then log in to the VPN client.
    1. Click Start->Programs->Link2Exchange VPN Client->VPN Client.

    2. Click Connect.

    3. Log in with your Link2Exchange e-mail address and password.

  2. Once you're connected to the VPN (the lock is closed), test IP connectivity to our servers.

    1. Click Start->Run.

    2. Type cmd and click OK.

    3. Type ping 172.24.16.16 and hit Enter. You should receive a response that looks like this:
          Pinging 172.24.16.16 with 32 bytes of data:

          Reply from 172.24.16.16: bytes=32 time=10ms TTL=127
          Reply from 172.24.16.16: bytes=32 time=10ms TTL=127
          Reply from 172.24.16.16: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=127
          Reply from 172.24.16.16: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=127

          Ping statistics for 172.24.16.16:
              Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
          Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
              Minimum = 0ms, Maximum =  20ms, Average =  10ms

      • If you do not receive any replies, disconnect and reconnect the VPN and try this test again.

  3. Test hostname connectivity to the Link2Exchange network. (Even with IP connectivity, you need to be able to resolve hostnames in order to connect to our service. This test will confirm if that is working and offer the solution if it is not.

    1. If you closed the command prompt, click Start->Run then type cmd and click OK.

    2. Type ping lk0-cs0.int.link2exchange.com (those are zeros, not capital Ohs) and hit Enter. You should receive a response that looks like this:
      Pinging lk0-cs0.int.link2exchange.com [172.24.16.16] with 32 bytes of data:

      Reply from 172.24.16.16: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=127
      Reply from 172.24.16.16: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=127
      Reply from 172.24.16.16: bytes=32 time=10ms TTL=127
      Reply from 172.24.16.16: bytes=32 time=10ms TTL=127

      Ping statistics for 172.24.16.16:

      Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
          Minimum = 0ms, Maximum =  20ms, Average =  10ms
  4. If you've passed all of the tests above, your VPN connection is working perfectly.
