 HOW-TOs

Running multiple VPN clients simultaneously

Document: Q1049

Overview:

If you're connecting in from home and need access to both your email (on the Link2Exchange network) and shared folders (on your office network) you can VPN into both simultaneously assuming you have a VPN server at your office. This should work without any additional configuration as long as your office VPN server assigns a WINS server address to you when you log in. If you find that it isn't working then you need to configure a WINS server IP address on the connection you use to connect to your office (be it dial-up, DSL or cable).

Procedure:

To setup a WINS server manually:
  1. Click Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->Communications-->Network and Dialup Connections (this might also say Dialup Networking).
  2. Right-click on the icon you use to connect to the Internet and click Properties. (For Cable/DSL, this will be a Local Area Network icon.)
  3. Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Click the WINS tab.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Type in the IP address of your office's WINS server (provided by your office's system administrator) and click Add.
  8. Click OK until you're back at the Network and Dialup Connections folder.
