Received error: 'User authentication failed'. What should I do?

Document: Q1262

Overview:

If your CISCO VPN client is giving 'User authentication failed' error messages, it can only be for one of the following reasons: you're already connected to Link2Exchange's VPN with this account, you're typing in the wrong username/password combination or your account has been temporarily locked out due to too many bad password attempts in a row.

Procedure:

If you receive the error 'User Authentication Failed' when connecting with your Link2Exchange VPN client, do the following:
  1. Verify that you are using the correct username/password to log into Link2Exchange's network by testing them at https://mail.link2exchange.com. If you're able to log in there, then you should be able to log into the VPN. Try connecting again - this time carefully check your username and password and make sure the CAPSLOCK key isn't on.

    • Your VPN login is your Link2Exchange email address and password.

  2. Disconnect any open VPN client sessions and verify that you haven't left your VPN client open on any other computers. Try connecting again.
  3. If all else fails, wait 15 minutes and try again. If your account is locked out, it will automatically unlock itself after 15 minutes.
