Outlook appears to be connected and working properly. How can I be sure it is?

Document: Q1265

Overview:

If you've completed your configuration of Microsoft Outlook and want to be sure it's working properly, follow the testing procedure below.

Procedure:

  1. If you're not using Windows XP/2003, make sure your VPN is connected and functioning properly.

  2. Open Microsoft Outlook and log in with your e-mail address and password.

  3. Test sending an e-mail message (to yourself) through Outlook. This test will ensure you can send and receive e-mail on the Link2Exchange server and will make sure you're not over your account quota.

    1. Click File->New->Mail Message.

    2. Type your e-mail address in the To: box.

    3. Type 'testing email' in the box next to Subject.

    4. Type 'Testing Outlook email' in the message box at the bottom of the new message window.

    5. Click Send. Because you're using Cached Mode Exchange, the message may take 5-10 seconds to be delivered. If it takes any longer than that, click Tools->Send/Receive->Send/Receive All

    6. If you received the e-mail message then your Outlook mail profile is configured correctly and is connected to Link2Exchange.
  4. Test receiving e-mail from a non-Link2Exchange account.

    1. Log into your non-Link2Exchange e-mail account and send your Link2Exchange account a message. The purpose of this test is to ensure that the rest of the Internet can send e-mail to your Link2Exchange account.

    2. If you received the e-mail message then your domain's e-mail routing is working perfectly.
  5. If you passed all of the tests above, your connection is working properly!
