Installing the Blackberry Desktop Manager Software for Windows

Overview:

In order to enable real-time email and calendaring on your Blackberry (prior to version 4.0) with Link2Exchange, you must configure the Blackberry Desktop Manager to synchronize with our BES Server. If you have already installed the Blackberry Desktop Manager, do not follow this procedure yet. Instead, click the link below for instructions on how to perform a clean uninstall of your Desktop Manager software then resume this procedure.

NOTE: Before you can configure your Blackberry to connect to Link2Exchange, you must first subscribe to our Blackberry service.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not install Desktop Manager v4.1 if you are using a Blackberry device running software revision 4.0 or later. (See 'Related Documents' below for a link on how to determine what version of software you are running.

Downloading the latest Blackberry Desktop Manager Software:

If you don't have the latest copy of the Blackberry Desktop Software (currently version 4.1), download it from Blackberry directly as follows:
  1. In your web browser, go to http://www.blackberry.com/support/index.shtml.


  2. Under Support (towards the middle-righthand side of the screen) click Service Packs.


  3. Under Select a Product, select Blackberry Desktop Software v4.1 and click Select. (Choose version 4.0 even if your device is running an earlier version of the software.)


  4. Under BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.1 (English only), click Download Software. (You MUST download this version of Desktop Manager even if you want to install the update for Service Pack 1.


  5. Fill out your customer information form and click Next.


  6. Read the license agreement. If you agree to it, click the radio button next to I Agree and then click Next.


  7. Click the Download button.


  8. When prompted, click Save and save the software to your Desktop (to make it easy to find later).


You've downloaded the latest desktop manager software, now it's time to install it.

Installing the Blackberry Desktop Manager Software:

  1. Double click on the Blackberry Desktop Software installer icon that you downloaded. (Current filename: 40033dt-en.exe)


  2. The Blackberry Desktop Software will automatically decompress and begin installing.


  3. At the Welcome to the Blackberry Desktop Software setup screen, click Next.


  4. Select the Country or region in which you're located and click Next.


  5. Read the license agreement. If you agree to it, click Yes


  6. Under User Name, enter in your Full Name (FirstName LastName). Under Company Name, enter the name of your company. Click Next.


  7. Make sure 'Integrate with Enterprise email account' is selected and click Next.


  8. Make sure 'Microsoft Exchange' is selected and click Next.


  9. Make sure 'Redirect email using Blackberry Enterprise Server' is selected and click Next.


  10. Click Next on the Choose Destination Location screen.


  11. Click Next on the Select Program Folder screen.


  12. Choose which options you want for your Blackberry Desktop Software. (It is recommended that you choose to Start desktop manager automatically each time the computer starts.) Click Next.


  13. Click Finish to complete the installation. Blackberry Desktop Software will launch automatically.


  14. Once you've completed the installation of the Blackberry Desktop Software, follow the instructions for Configuring the Blackberry Desktop Software to connect to Link2Exchange.
