Installing and Configuring ActiveSync PC Software
Document: Q1118
Overview:
In order to properly connect to the Link2Exchange ActiveSync server, you must first install the ActiveSync desktop software and activate your Pocket PC account with us.
(See important pricing information linked below under 'Related Documents'.) If you already have installed ActiveSync for a previous service provider, see our article for instructions on uninstalling Active Sync. You MUST uninstall ActiveSync
if it's already installed in order to ensure it is set up properly.
Procedure:
Download the latest ActiveSync software from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d2645c21-8a85-45a2-8d13-653beb6cdddc&DisplayLang=en. The latest version is ActiveSync 3.8. Just click the Download button on the right-hand side of the screen and save the file to your desktop.
INSTALLING THE ACTIVESYNC SOFTWARE
- Unplug your phone from your PC, if it's currently plugged in.
- Double-click the file named MSASYNC.EXE on your Desktop to begin the installation.
- Click Next on the introductory screen.

- Click Next again on the select installation folder screen. The program will now start copying files to your computer. This may take a couple of minutes. Let it run.

- This installation especially likes to sit at 92% complete (because that's where it runs into a very large file it has to copy to your hard drive). Wait for it to finish. If it doesn't work, you will get an error message.

- If you get an error message that the setup program could not copy a file, unplug your phone from your PC then reboot and try this procedure again.

- Plug your handheld into your computer and make sure it's turned on.

- Click Next on the Get Connected screen, if it doesn't disappear automatically.

- Click Standard Partnership then click Next.

- Click Synchronize with Microsoft Exchange Server and/or this Desktop computer then click Next.

- Configure your Exchange server settings.
- Next to Server Name, type: mail.link2exchange.com.
- Put a check next to This Server uses an SSL connection.
- Next to Username, type in your OMA username.
Next to Password, type in your email password.
Next to Domain, type in: L2E
Put a check next to Save Password.
Click Next.

Under Mobile Device, make sure that Calendar, Contacts and Inbox are all checked then click Next.

Choose whether you want to synchronize data only with this computer or with this one and another one then click Next
.
Click Next on the Sychronization settings page. (These can be modified later.)

Click Finish.

SYNC YOUR POCKET PC WITH YOUR DESKTOP AND THE SERVER
- If ActiveSync doesn't launch automatically, unplug your Pocket PC from the computer and plug it back in. This will launch ActiveSync.
- Your Pocket PC will sync automatically and download your new mail, calendar entries, etc.
- You may be required to choose your Link2Exchange email profile and login with your email address and password.
- During your initial synchronization, choose how you'd like to synchronize the data on your PC with the data on your phone. (If you have no data on your phone or you want to get rid of what is on your phone, choose Replace the items on my device with the items on this computer. Otherwise choose combine items. This may create some duplicates but you can delete those later.
