Overview:
Some Link2Exchange users use their Blackberry as their primary source of e-mail. As such, when e-mail is deleted from their Blackberry, these users want the e-mail to be deleted from the server, as well. Follow the procedure below to enable deleting e-mail from the server using your Blackberry handheld.
NOTE: Once the e-mail is deleted from the server, it will no longer show up in Outlook or OWA. That message will be gone forever. Be very sure you want to delete it before deleting it from the server.
Procedure:
- On your Blackberry device's home screen, click Messages.
- Click the trackwheel to pull up the menu then click Options.
- Scroll down and click on Email Reconciliation.
- Highlight the value next to Delete On.
- Click the trackwheel to pull up the menu then click Change Option.
- Scroll down and click on the Option you want: (Note: If you want to delete from both the handheld and server, Link2Exchange recommends setting the option to Prompt you each time you delete a message just to ensure you definitely want to delete it.)
- Handheld: Only delete the message from the Handheld. Do not delete it from the server.
- Mailbox & Handheld: Automatically delete the message from both the handheld and the server.
- Prompt: Prompt each time you delete a message to let you decide whether to delete it from just the handheld or from both the handheld and the server.
- Highlight the value next to Wireless Reconcile.
- Click the trackwheel to pull up the menu then click Change Option.
- Scroll down and click On.
- Highlight the value next to On Conflicts.
- Click the trackwheel to pull up the menu then click Change Option.
- Scroll down and click Mailbox Wins. (This is always recommended when using a BES server.)
- Click the trackwheel to pull up the menu then click Save.
- Send yourself two test e-mail messages to check that wireless reconciliation is working.
- Delete one of the messages on your Blackberry.
- Delete the other message in Microsoft Outlook or OWA. Do NOT Empty your Deleted Items folder. The BES server needs to see the deleted items in the Deleted Items folder in order to know to delete them from your Handheld.
- On your Blackberry device's home screen, click Messages.
- Click the trackwheel to pull up the menu then scroll down click Reconcile Now. The messages should disappear from both Outlook and the Blackberry.
NOTE: If you do not click Reconcile Now, the messages may take up to 30 minutes to be deleted from the server and the handheld. This is due to how the Blackberry Enterprise Server polls your account to determine when to delete messages.
