HOWTO: Configure your Calendar wireless sync settings on your Blackberry

Document: Q1213

Overview:

Users with Blackberry devices running software version 4.0 or later can now perform all of their email, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes configuration without connecting to their desktop pc. Below are instructions on configuring settings for your wireless calendar synchronization.

Procedure:

  1. On your Blackberry device's home screen, click Calendar.
  2. Click the trackwheel to bring up the drop-down menu and click Options.
  3. There are many options you can modify on this screen. The following are the most common. You can experiment and find what you like. As long as you don't disable wireless synchronization, you can't break anything.

    1. Change the initial calendar view. By default, your Blackberry calendar will only show one day worth of appointments. You can change this to a week, a month, view by agenda or view last.

      • Scroll to highlight the value next to Initial View.

      • Click the trackwheel to bring up the drop-down menu and click Change Option.

      • Scroll to the option you want then click on it. For example, scroll down to Month then click the trackwheel to change the setting.

      • If this is the last option you want to change, hit the Escape key on your handheld (just below the trackwheel) then click Save.
    2. Change the time range displayed in your calendar. By default the Blackberry only shows your calendar appointments from 9:00am to 5:00pm. You can change this setting to whatever you want. The most commonly selected range is 24-hour (instructions below).

      • Scroll to highlight the hour value next to Start of Day.

      • Click the trackwheel to bring up the drop-down menu and click Change Option.

      • Scroll to the option you want then click on it. For example, scroll up to 12:00am click the trackwheel to change the setting.

      • Scroll to highlight the minutes value next to Start of Day.

      • Click the trackwheel to bring up the drop-down menu and click Change Option.

      • Scroll to the option you want then click on it. For example, scroll down to 12:30am click the trackwheel to change the setting. (It's unlikely you'd want to start at 12:15 but this is just to illustrate it can be done.)

      • Scroll to highlight the hour value next to End of Day.

      • Click the trackwheel to bring up the drop-down menu and click Change Option.

      • Scroll to the option you want then click on it. For example, scroll down to 12:00am click the trackwheel to change the setting. (Yes, 12:00 am. That'll make it a complete 24-hour day.)

      • Scroll to highlight the minutes value next to End of Day.

      • Click the trackwheel to bring up the drop-down menu and click Change Option.

      • Scroll to the option you want then click on it. For example, scroll up to 11:30pm click the trackwheel to change the setting. (It's unlikely you'd want to end at 11:30pm but this is just to illustrate it can be done.)

      • If this is the last option you want to change, hit the Escape key on your handheld (just below the trackwheel) then click Save.
    3. Change the amount of time you store appointments on your handheld. By default the Blackberry only stores 60 days worth of calendar appointments on your handheld. You can modify this so that it stores all of them or as little as 15 days of them.

      • Scroll to highlight the value next to Keep Appointments.

      • Click the trackwheel to bring up the drop-down menu and click Change Option.

      • Scroll to the option you want then click on it. For example, scroll down to Forever then click the trackwheel to change the setting.

      • If this is the last option you want to change, hit the Escape key on your handheld (just below the trackwheel) then click Save.
    4. Re-enable wireless calendar synchronization. By default wireless calendar synchronization is enabled on your Blackberry. Don't disable it. If you do accidentally disable it, enable it by following the steps below.

      • Scroll to highlight the value next to Wireless Synchronization.

      • Click the trackwheel to bring up the drop-down menu and click Change Option.

      • Scroll up to Yes then click your trackwheel.

      • If this is the last option you want to change, hit the Escape key on your handheld (just below the trackwheel) then click Save.
