HOWTO: Add a hosts file entry for Link2Exchange

Document: Q1124

Overview:

When you initially install Link2Exchange, we configure your local hosts file to ensure you can connect to our mail server regardless of whether your DNS server is working or not. Should you have trouble reaching our server by name (lk0-cso.int.link2exchange.com) then it may be due to a missing entry in your local hosts file. Follow the procedure below to correct this issue.

Procedure:

  1. Click Start->Run.
  2. Type notepad and hit Enter.
  3. Click File->Open.
  4. Next to Files of Type:, select All Files.
  5. Navigate into the directory that Windows in installed in c:\\system32\drivers\etc and double click on hosts (not hosts.sam or hosts.txt).

    • will either be WINNT or WINDOWS
  6. Add the following line if it's not already there:

    • 172.24.16.16 server.name lk0-cs0
  7. Click File-->Save.
  8. Click File-->Exit.

You should now be able to get to our mail server by name. If you continue to have problems, contact our support department at .
