Forwarding e-mail to your non-authoritative Link2Exchange Business account

Document: Q1282

Overview:

Some Link2Exchange Business account holders only use Link2Exchange to provide e-mail to a few of the users on their domain, instead of all users. In these cases, Link2Exchange configures the domain as non-authoritative on our servers so that e-mail sent from our server can reach the users on the authoritative mail server for the domain.

In order for incoming e-mail to reach these non-authoritative Link2Exchange e-mail accounts, it must be forwarded from the authoritative accounts via a specially-formatted forwarding address.

NOTE: If you have a Blackberry 4.0 device and a non-authoritative (aka "NO CONTROL") Link2Exchange domain account, you will not be able to wireless activate your Blackberry until this e-mail forwarding process is completed.

Procedure:

Please use the customize feature at the top of this page if you have not done so already.
On your existing e-mail account service for you@yourdomain.com, configure your account to forward to: (If this is not your email account, use the customize feature at the top of this page)
user.domain.com@server.name

For example, if your user account with Link2Exchange was bsmith@example.com you would forward the account to: bsmith.example.com@server.name

You may have to call your current service provider to enable this option, or they may have provided some type of automated system for this.

  1. Log into your authoritative mail server account and configure your email forwarding to point to the "E-mail Forwarding Address" listed above.
  2. Send a test e-mail to your account and check the Link2Exchange mailbox to ensure it arrived successfully.

    1. The easiest way to check is to log into our "web-based email".

    2. Log in with your e-mail address (not the forwarding address) and password.

    3. Click on the Inbox folder to see if your message arrived. If not, contact Link2Exchange Support (support@link2exchange.com).

*NOTE*:
Some domains block sending emails from non-authoritative domains, it perceived as spam or a spoofed account. To avoid bounced emails from these types of mail servers, support suggests contacting your authoritative mail provider and have their DNS administrator add the link2exchange server IP address as an approved sending mail server.
