Configuring Outlook for POP3 mailboxes

Document: Q1106

Overview:

While Link2Exchange strongly recommends using RPC over HTTP and our Profile Configuration "ProfConf" tool, it is possible to manually setup a Link2Exchange POP account. Please note that some of Outlook/Exchanges functionality will not work with POP3, such as the use of Public Folders. We strongly recommend using RPC over HTTP so that these features remain open to you.

Procedure:

To setup a Link2Exchange user's access via POP3 make sure you have your VPN client connected then do the following:
  1. Click Start->Settings->Control Panel.

  2. Double click Mail.

  3. Click Show Profiles.

  4. Click Prompt for a Profile to be used.

  5. Click Add.

  6. Type in L2E POP for the Profile name. (Technically whatever you want to put in is fine.)

  7. Click Add new email account then click Next.

  8. Click POP3 then click Next.

  9. Type in your personal and account information in the provided boxes then click Next.

    1. Incoming Mail Server: server.name

    2. Outgoing Mail Server: server.name

    3. Username: your full email address (including the domain name)

  10. Click Test Account Settings. You should get all green checkmarks. If not, review what you typed in and make sure your VPN client is connected to Link2Exchange then try again.

  11. To leave a copy of your email on the server (recommended since this is an Exchange server):

    1. Click More Settings.

    2. Click the Advanced tab.

    3. Put a check next to Leave a copy of messages on the server.

    4. Put a check next to Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'.

    5. Click OK

  12. Click Next.

  13. Click Finish.
