Configuring Outlook for POP3 mailboxes

Document: Q1106

Overview:

While Link2Exchange strongly recommends using RPC over HTTPS, it is possible to manually setup a Link2Exchange POP account. Please note that some of Outlook/Exchanges functionality will not work with POP3, such as the use of Public Folders. We strongly recommend using RPC over HTTPS so that these features remain open to you.

Procedure:

  1. Click Start->Settings->Control Panel.

  2. Double click Mail.

  3. Click Show Profiles.

  4. Click Prompt for a Profile to be used.

  5. Click Add.

  6. Type in L2E POP for the Profile name. (Technically whatever you want to put in is fine.)

  7. Click Add new email account then click Next.

  8. Click POP3 then click Next.

  9. Type in your personal and account information in the provided boxes then click Next.

    1. Incoming Mail Server: mail.exmx.net

    2. Outgoing Mail Server: mail.exmx.net

    3. Username: you@yourdomain.com

  10. Click More Settings.

    1. Click the Advanced tab.

    2. Under Outgoing server put a check in the box for "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
    3. Change the Outgoing port to 587
    4. Put a check next to Leave a copy of messages on the server.

    5. Put a check next to Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'.

    6. Click OK

  11. Click Next.

  12. Click Finish.
