Overview:
If you requested to have your DNS handled by Link2Exchange then you can manage your DNS information through our control panel. This includes the ability to create A (host) records and CNAME (alias) records for your web server, ftp server, or any other machine for which you'd like to configure a hostname.
Procedure:
- Log in to the Link2Exchange control panel as the admin account for your account.
- Under Microsoft DNS, click List Zones. If you do not see a Microsoft DNS section in your control panel, contact Link2Exchange support to activate DNS management on your account.
- Click the radio button next to the domain to add DNS records for then click List Records.
- Add a new hostname (A record) for your web (or other) server.
- Click Add Host Record.
- Next to Name, type in www or whatever you want the hostname to be. (examples include ftp, mail, and fw01)
- Next to IP Address, type in the IP address of the server to which you'd like this hostname to point. Note: It is important that the IP address of this server be a static IP address. A dynamic IP address may change when you log out and log back in. If that happens this DNS record would need to be updated manually. A static IP address is always the same and would prevent such a problem. Contact your ISP to determine if you have a static or dynamic IP address and request that you be assigned a static IP address if you don't already have one.
- Click Add.
- You can add other hostnames, for example www or ftp, in the same fashion but make sure to find out the correct IP address to point those hostnames to before adding them.
- Add a new alias (CNAME record) for your web (or other) server.
- Click Add CNAME Record.
- Next to Alias Name, type in www or whatever you want the hostname to be. (examples include ftp, mail, and fw01)
- Next to Fully qualified name for target host, type in the full hostname (including domain) to which you'd like this alias to point. For example, if you want to point www2.domain.com to www.domain.com, the alias name would be www2 and the fully qualified domain for target host would be www.domain.com
- Click Add.
- You can add other aliases, for example webmail or ftp2, in the same fashion but make sure to find out the correct IP address to point those hostnames to before adding them.
